Ljubljana
I arrived in Ljubljana by train in the middle of the night. It was a city so quiet and so empty at this hour, you could hear a pin drop. I wasn't particularly tired so I decided to just walk across town to my hostel (about a 15 minute walk) I knew I was in the old town but somehow it just seemed so quiet. Too quiet. After a couple minutes I noticed two guys behind me. It didn't bother me at first but as we continued farther and farther, I began to wonder; are they following me? I finally got to the hostel with them getting unnervingly close behind me and closed the door quickly behind me, relieved that I had made it safely. Moments later- to my horror at that moment- the door swung open and the men entered. We were staying at the same hostel.
I regrettably didn't spend long in Ljubljana, just stopped here for two nights while passing through the region. It was beautiful. I really enjoyed my walking tour and discovering all the charm this city has to offer. I would definitely go back!
Triple Bridge (Tromostovje)
A quirky, unique highlight in old town Ljubljana. The two extra bridges were built alongside the first to accomodate the heavy traffic across the river
Prešeren Square
Triple bridge opens up onto Prešeren Square, which essentially the major central square of Ljubljana, home to the pink church (The Franciscan Church of the Annunciation)
Town Square- Mestni Trg
Another beautiful town square, and very close to Prešeren Square. The Robbov Vodnjak fountain at the center of this square is an absolute gem!
Ljubljana Cathedral
This is the interior of the Green-domed Ljubljana Cathedral pictured above
Dragon Bridge (Zmajski most)
This bridge crosses the Ljubljanica River. If you appreciate a nice statue, these dragons are a unique must see!
Ljubljana Central Market
Look out for this row of columns as you wander around town- Ljubljana's Central Market is just beside them with plenty of great things on offer
Ljubljana Castle (Ljubljana grad)
I enjoyed the walk up to the castle and found myself here in the evening overlooking Prešeren Square and all the city lights behind it. There are a lot of trees so not exactly sweeping panoramic views, but you'll be able to get a glimpse of the city below. There is also a funicular if you're not in the mood for the 15 minute uphill hike to the top.
Ljubljanica River
This river more or less divides the old town from the more modern part of the city. Its lined with restaurants and bars and really bustling in the evenings
Unfortunate Brand name: SLOWatch
Seen here in the heart of Ljubljana, Slovenia Watch- SloWatch- Slow Watch. This watch company makes my list of unfortunate brand names- what should have been a fun play on words turned out to be huge warning for customers about the reliability of the product.
