I am an extremely light traveler, so many times don't have space for souvenirs, This is my way of remembering all the wonderful places I've been
Picasso's Harlequin with folded hands on the left, and my remake on the right.
The original painting hangs in Koln (Cologne), Germany at the Ludwig Museum. I had never seen it before visiting the museum, but instantly fell in love and knew that I must make one of my own.
Bill T. Jones Body Painting by Keith Haring Original on left, my painting on right
Keith Haring, a New York hero, is a huge inspiration to me as an artist, so when I saw this image online I knew that I had to make my own version of it.
Okay so this wasn't technically a painting, but I turned it into one.
Venus of the rags by Michelangelo Pistoletto on the left, and my laundry room version on the right
I never studied art formally in school, so was blissfully unaware of this work of art until my visit to the Tate Modern in London. I fell in love instantly with the aesthetic and upon my return home, painted Venus of the rags in my own style.
The left is the original from the interior of Sulamani Temple, Bagan, Myanmar/Burma and on the right is my version.
I absolutely loved exploring Bagan, and of all the hundreds of thousands of paintings there, this one in particular caught my eye.
Christ of Saint John of the Cross is a painting by Salvador Dalà made in 1951 which is in the collection of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow. My version is on the right.
Again, I painted my version after visiting the Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow. Like the others, I saw it and knew I had to have it!
This is a copy of one of the paintings on the interior of St. Basil's in Moscow, Russia.
I had never realized how chopped up the inside of St. Basil's was until I visited it myself. Each room is decorated differently. Of all the paintings in the cathedral, this one stood out to me as timelessly beautiful.
Woman in the garden, by Claude Monet- Saint Petersburg, Russia
Me standing in front of the Original at the Hermitage on the left, and my version on the right.
This painting is part of the Hermitage's collection. I've seen it three times- twice at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, and once in Amsterdam during a special exhibition at the Hermitage's Amsterdam branch.
Because of this painting, my parents have nicknamed me "Jonet"
In short,
"The best souvenir is always inspiration!"
